Anton Lavey's an amazing intellect。 The essays herein are deep satanically inspired and even philosophical to the point of really making you think about the topics contained in this book。 I personally like the esssay called "entertain me" Marilyn Manson also wrote the forward in this book a great read。 Anton Lavey's an amazing intellect。 The essays herein are deep satanically inspired and even philosophical to the point of really making you think about the topics contained in this book。 I personally like the esssay called "entertain me" Marilyn Manson also wrote the forward in this book a great read。 。。。more

Not the best work by Anton。 I enjoyed it and will read again。 Just didn’t hold my interest like his previous book。 Did like him writing about computers and the like。

As with all books by the great Doktor, this one is just as incredible! Whether a Satanist or not, this is a book many will enjoy。 HS!

I read this book out of curiosity。 The reason why I gave this book one stare is that this book lack of coherence in term of ideas, jumping from one to another without having a link between ideas add to that using bad language and grammar。

Need to read this book

Some seriously weird ideas。 If one takes out the religious stuff and concentrates on the rest, it reads waay better。

A very enlightening read。Though I may not agree with every small statement made in the book and I may not even understand all of Lavey’s words in “Satan Speaks!,” but I believe he is a highly intelligent man whom I have gratitude towards。As an added bonus to my pleasure with this read, I agreed with big parts of straightforward thoughts and opinions by Lavey, so it was nice to read the very words I have been thinking since the beginning and not being comfortable enough to share to others。Looks l A very enlightening read。Though I may not agree with every small statement made in the book and I may not even understand all of Lavey’s words in “Satan Speaks!,” but I believe he is a highly intelligent man whom I have gratitude towards。As an added bonus to my pleasure with this read, I agreed with big parts of straightforward thoughts and opinions by Lavey, so it was nice to read the very words I have been thinking since the beginning and not being comfortable enough to share to others。Looks like this will be a swell reference book for me! 。。。more

LaVey's "Satan Speaks!" is one of the most gloriously unorganized and charismatic books I have read, as is, perhaps, to be expected。 It seems as though he simply talks about what he wishes to, bouncing from shoes to religion to inferiority, and it all works brilliantly。 LaVey delivers his essays with well-timed humor, tactful cynicism, and a degree of bluntness that manages to be both unnerving and refreshing。 As a result, even the ideas I found myself disagreeing with were interesting and thoug LaVey's "Satan Speaks!" is one of the most gloriously unorganized and charismatic books I have read, as is, perhaps, to be expected。 It seems as though he simply talks about what he wishes to, bouncing from shoes to religion to inferiority, and it all works brilliantly。 LaVey delivers his essays with well-timed humor, tactful cynicism, and a degree of bluntness that manages to be both unnerving and refreshing。 As a result, even the ideas I found myself disagreeing with were interesting and thought-provoking。 After having read "Satan Speaks!" I can easily see myself looking into LaVey's other works as well as those cut from a similar cloth。 。。。more

A witty, interesting book。 Not all of the ideas in it are positive, good, or factual, but it gives interesting food for thought and is an entertaining read。

Another book of essays by Doctor LaVey。 I must admit that I enjoyed this one a little bit more than The Devil's Notebook。 Some essays fit me very well, some not quite so much, and there was a one or two I skipped entirely (unappealing themes)。 Still。。。 I can´t even think about comparing this book to the magnificent work of Magus Gilmore。I certainly does not regret reading this piece and I will definitely return to some bookmarked pages later。 Another book of essays by Doctor LaVey。 I must admit that I enjoyed this one a little bit more than The Devil's Notebook。 Some essays fit me very well, some not quite so much, and there was a one or two I skipped entirely (unappealing themes)。 Still。。。 I can´t even think about comparing this book to the magnificent work of Magus Gilmore。I certainly does not regret reading this piece and I will definitely return to some bookmarked pages later。 。。。more

I really, really enjoyed this collection of essays and musings by Anton Szandor LaVey, founder of the Church of Satan and what is called "modern Satanism。" First point: Let me say that while I am a Satanist, it is no longer of the LaVeyan variety, as it was during my teenage years。 The experiences I've had in my life have brought me 'round full circle, to the point where I now identify as a spiritual Satanist (but, to avoid confusion and jargon, let's just stick with one word: Satanist)。 Which b I really, really enjoyed this collection of essays and musings by Anton Szandor LaVey, founder of the Church of Satan and what is called "modern Satanism。" First point: Let me say that while I am a Satanist, it is no longer of the LaVeyan variety, as it was during my teenage years。 The experiences I've had in my life have brought me 'round full circle, to the point where I now identify as a spiritual Satanist (but, to avoid confusion and jargon, let's just stick with one word: Satanist)。 Which brings me to my second point: I would have given this five stars if I had agreed with everything LaVey says here, but I don't。 For instance, his belief that "people who spell magic with a 'k' 。 。 。 aren't。" While clever, it simply isn't true。 Rather, those who spell it with a 'k' don't use it solely for the purpose of psychodrama like the LaVeyans。 I also don't agree with the bits where LaVey states how he is against abortion - but then, you have to remember, this was written by a man born in 1930。 And I don't agree with his quasi-fascistic attempts to try and validate eugenics。Apart from that, I think the rest of the book is excellent。 This is my second time reading it - third if you count the time when I merely skimmed through it, selecting a few choice parts to read。 Some of the essays here are brilliant, others funny, and others inspiring。 I can't tell you how many times I finished reading one of these, paused and put the book down, and said to myself, "That's so true," or "I feel this way, too。" Whatever opinion I hold of the current Church of Satan (it isn't a positive one), I've always respected LaVey as a philosopher ahead of his time, a real devil's advocate, and a clever businessman。One of my favorite parts was when LaVey wrote on how society now rewards incompetence instead of hard work; nepotism instead of reliability and intellect; and how stupid or otherwise inconsequential people exploit that system to their benefit。 LaVey says here: "A fine display of competence can be affected while still maintaining one's ineptitude。 Marvels of technology have provided awesome means by which a dolt may appear gifted。" Was LaVey looking into a crystal ball as he wrote this? But my absolute favorite part was one that rings true so loudly in this day and age: his chapter on the popularization of false victimhood。 Just like self-immolating monks who kill themselves rather than change anything, rioters who destroy their own neighborhoods, or Christian martyrs, LaVey explains how the cult of the victim persists - and grows - today。 "There will always be professional victims," he says。 "The entire concept of Christianity is a victim cult。 To be Christ-like is to be victimized and concurrently righteous。"In many ways that chapter is a foretelling of what we see today, where the people with the loudest voices are those without any special talent or noteworthiness, who, in an ironic reversal, bully those who refuse to acknowledge their status as perpetually-oppressed victim。 You know what I'm talking about。 Spoiled people with iPads and cars and college degrees, talking about "triggering" and "safe spaces" and other horseshit。 LaVey saw the shit coming before it hit the fan, but now that it has, I'd suggest reading this essay for some advice on how to avoid swallowing it。As LaVey concluded, " 。 。 。 and the malcontent and the ugly were to become the official victims from which the scam of oppression would emerge and flourish。" And so it has。 It started with Christianity, but it didn't end there。 Everyone's got a cross to bear, and each one is lit up like a neon sign, bearing the words, "PAY ATTENTION TO ME! I WANT TO FEEL IMPORTANT!"This is a huge part of why I enjoyed this book。 It comes across not only as an assortment of thoughts and philosophic musings from a Satanic thinker, but also as a veritable how-to for the modern age。 How to be a devilish charmer, how to rise above mediocrity and insignificance, how to spot the "God of the assholes" when he rears his ugly white-bearded head。 Satan Speaks! is something that is just as eye- and mind-opening as other works, like The Satanic Bible, and even moreso than works like The Satanic Scriptures。 Great stuff。 。。。more

Perfect for when you only have a few minutes but still wanna have something to read。 Not the book for those who lack in critical analysis。 LeVay will say one thing that sounds very bigoted but then in the next sentence will say another that sounds on verge of being an SJW。 Look at what s being said, sentence by sentence but also in the larger context of the essay, the book, the time period, and the man himself。 Definitely some good things can come out of this book but not if you're an "all or no Perfect for when you only have a few minutes but still wanna have something to read。 Not the book for those who lack in critical analysis。 LeVay will say one thing that sounds very bigoted but then in the next sentence will say another that sounds on verge of being an SJW。 Look at what s being said, sentence by sentence but also in the larger context of the essay, the book, the time period, and the man himself。 Definitely some good things can come out of this book but not if you're an "all or nothing" kinda learner。 。。。more

I started reading this book equipped only with the knowledge that it was the last of LaVey's published works, and the impression that it was probably a good companion piece to "The Devil's Notebook。" I was right, and I was wrong。Where "The Devil's Notebook" may be described as loosely-structured, "Satan Speaks!" reads like the declassified journal entries of Satan after having gone into seclusion for years。 I got the distinct impression while reading this that the outside world kept creeping in, I started reading this book equipped only with the knowledge that it was the last of LaVey's published works, and the impression that it was probably a good companion piece to "The Devil's Notebook。" I was right, and I was wrong。Where "The Devil's Notebook" may be described as loosely-structured, "Satan Speaks!" reads like the declassified journal entries of Satan after having gone into seclusion for years。 I got the distinct impression while reading this that the outside world kept creeping in, and in ways that LaVey flat-out despised, so that he was thoroughly fed-up and had to get out all his frustrations by writing it。 LaVey was never a whiner, but there are lamentations, scathing criticisms, bitter resentments, and full essays I believed I could only do justice by reading it as if he were hissing it at me through his teeth。LaVey has always been angry on some level, so the above may come as nothing new to some readers - though the quantity may be。 What made this really stand out to me, though, is that I've never disagreed with him more。 From mundane topics like bathing and stereo, to hot-button topics like abortion, I find his thought process totally contrary to my own。 Despite the very personal nature of these pieces, he never states only his view, but how he arrived there。 In all cases of disagreement, it's made clear in what way his position relates to certain principles he holds as fundamental to his world view。 Though I may disagree with him at times (and it is most certainly a minority), I can see the logical steps he took to arrive where he did。It seems a sad commentary on the world into which this was released that a man who so loved life felt the need to write the essays herein, but I can't help thinking all the right people will see what LaVey wrote here simply as a challenge: "There is more work to be done。"Well, as they say, there is no rest for the wicked。 。。。more

This was a fun book。 Anton LaVey should be taken with a grain of salt in my opinion。 I think that some of these articles were a little bit ridiculous such as the article on everyone being in wheelchairs in the future and not walking, like okay。。。 or the article about artificial total environments。 I think this must have been written with LaVey was getting a little bit on the eccentric side, but this is still a great read。 There were more essays where I found myself agreeing with LaVey or having This was a fun book。 Anton LaVey should be taken with a grain of salt in my opinion。 I think that some of these articles were a little bit ridiculous such as the article on everyone being in wheelchairs in the future and not walking, like okay。。。 or the article about artificial total environments。 I think this must have been written with LaVey was getting a little bit on the eccentric side, but this is still a great read。 There were more essays where I found myself agreeing with LaVey or having a chuckle at his amazing sense of humor, which shines throughout this book than I found myself disagreeing with him。 I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to get to know the founder of the Church of Satan a little better, I would warn though to read his other books first before you form an opinion on him based on this book, because it is a little on the silly side。 。。。more

This volume of collected writings and musings by the founder and head "song and dance man" of the church of satan is a nice continuation from "the devil's notebooks"。 While I don't agree with all of his opinions, it's pretty damn clear that he did require agreement。 What you find in these pages is more of the man behind the smoke and mirrors。 I get the sense he still played the false fronts to the end even in some of these writings。 Even so, anton the cornball, anton the joker, anton the dirty o This volume of collected writings and musings by the founder and head "song and dance man" of the church of satan is a nice continuation from "the devil's notebooks"。 While I don't agree with all of his opinions, it's pretty damn clear that he did require agreement。 What you find in these pages is more of the man behind the smoke and mirrors。 I get the sense he still played the false fronts to the end even in some of these writings。 Even so, anton the cornball, anton the joker, anton the dirty old man, anton the entertaining carny can all be seen。 You could compare these to martin luther's "table talk" but i doubt these collected writings were written while smashed at the dining table。One interesting note, pg。163 anton states that he wishes tcos to be a religion for non-joiners。 Funny thing is that is a descriptive attached to the church of the subgenius。。。i wonder if he converted to "bob" on his deathbed。 。。。more

Whatever notions you have about his Church of Satan and his original "Satanic Bible" LaVey is a great writer。 He offers some interesting views of the world which for the most part are not wrong at all。 One piece of advice that stuck with me in the collection was too take seriously the things that other people poke fun at and degrade。 That has stuck with me for years and has changed how I view people for better and worse。 Whatever notions you have about his Church of Satan and his original "Satanic Bible" LaVey is a great writer。 He offers some interesting views of the world which for the most part are not wrong at all。 One piece of advice that stuck with me in the collection was too take seriously the things that other people poke fun at and degrade。 That has stuck with me for years and has changed how I view people for better and worse。 。。。more

I got into LaVey's writings waaaay back in high school, and they've been an entirely positive influence on me。 This book's been a long time coming and I'm thoroughly satisfied with the selection of essays, particularly the bits on sorcery, invisibility and humourlessness。 LaVey would have been a great guy to have a conversation with。 I got into LaVey's writings waaaay back in high school, and they've been an entirely positive influence on me。 This book's been a long time coming and I'm thoroughly satisfied with the selection of essays, particularly the bits on sorcery, invisibility and humourlessness。 LaVey would have been a great guy to have a conversation with。 。。。more
